  • How To Recover Data In A Windows Encrypted File/folder ?

Posted on February 23rd, 2010 Jason 3 comments

I encrypted a folder in Windows XP. Then I formatted my C:\ but managed to back up its contents. I’ve since restored most of the old C:\ into the new C:\ and have deleted all the folders including the old Windows folder. I’ve only still got the previous Documents & Settings folder still intact.
My problem is this :- I want to decrypt the folder and its contents which I encrypted before formatting my C:\. But it says ‘Access is denied’. I’ve checked Microsoft’s MSDN and they said I need to find my key pair or something like that.
Does anyone know where the key pair is stored when you encrypt a file/folder ? Could it be maybe it’s still in the old Docs & Settings folder ?
I’ve followed the advice in MSDN and tried to create a recovery agent in Group Policy snap-in but it still doesnt work. I’ve even created a user ID similar to the old C:\ hoping to access the folder but to no success.
Does anyone know how I can decrypt the folder and recover my data ? It contains confidential data.

  • Indesign: How Do You Recover The “lost” Data That’s Already In The File?

Posted on February 18th, 2010 Jason 1 comment

I should have saved to a new file name BEFORE starting my mass delete of stuff in the file, but I didn’t.I pressed Ctrl-S out of habit and accidentally saved the file with a bunch of mostly empty pages. I know the data is there because the file is as huge as ever. Is there a way to get that data back? Note: I’m not talking about the file-recovery feature – that’s for when your computer crashed; I’m asking about the data that’s still in the file but no longer treated as live data by the program. This stuff gets removed when you do a “Save As…”

  • Is It Possible To Repair A Non-accessible Hard Drive And Recover The Data From It?

Posted on February 7th, 2010 Jason 1 comment

I have a hard drive that can’t be accessed anymore. That means that I can’t even see it in the BIOS configuration screen. I already tried it in other computers and got the same result.
Ans as to data recovery, I don’t know how I will do it because is non-accessible to begin with.
