Posted on February 25th, 2010 2 commentswell my seagate/ desk its making a skipping noise when i plug it in then it turns off, the LED doesn’t turn on and my laptop can’t find it either. I know I can replace it because of the 5 yr warranty. but I really want to save my data and Seagate offers a recovery service but its way too expensive. does anyone have any idea how i can fix this myself so that I can keep my data?

Unfortunately hard drive recovery cannot be done from home. You need to source out a company that offers this service. Do not use the Seagate service as it is likely to be the most expensive. The following companies offer hard drive recovery;
http://www.yesplay.com Plug & Play Computers 705-790-0977
http://www.canadacomputers.com Canada Computers
http://www.fixsys.ca Data Recovery 888-559-5587
http://www.werecoverdata.com We Recover 866-400-data
Hope this helps! Sorry for the bad news… -

Get yourself an working identical drive. Remove the discs from both, re-install your old discs into the new drive, and viola, you have just you have just performed D.I.Y. data recovery. If you don’t think that you’ll be able to do it, you’re going to have to pay someone.
Good Luck.
