The virus is residing inside the OS. Simply getting rid of other files isn’t going to do anything about killing the bug. Different viruses are removed in different ways. May want to try Googling the name of the virus. Usually someone has the fix for it.

I wouldn’t want to take a risk of not fully cleaning/erasing a computer if I know a virus is in it. The best way is to just reformat your computer and start fresh. But make sure you keep your important documents before you do that.

If you have a virus, the chances are it has actually infected the operating system, not your files. Unless your antivirus can get rid of it, you will have to format your hard drive and re-install your O/S
