How Can I Retreive My Data And Precious Picture, If I Can’t Open ‘windows’?
Posted on February 8th, 2010 5 commentsi have a desk top, but can;t boot up windows….if i do a full recovery, i’ll lose my grands ‘precious’ pics. is there a way that i could get the data off my hard drive before i do a FULL RECOVERY?

The only option I know of is to find a computer savee friend who can mount the hard drive from your computer into his/hers as a second drive. They can then do a scan for viruses and spyware to clean the drive. After that they would be able to access the picture files and the like and move them onto a CD or DVD, or just store them on their machine. Then you will have to put the drive back into your machine and run the system restore.

Sure, set the jumpers to slave and slave it off another computer hard drive.

Normally if the drive spins up, you can add it to a different computer as the slave drive. Use that system to get into the files and download them to a dvd or cd.

Yes. Dismount the drive, mount it in an external USB carrier and take it to another system to extract the data. Cost? About $50 or less.
